Kosin University was first established in 1946 by two pastors after they were imprisoned for opposing paying homage to Japanese shrines during the colonial era. Initially, most departments focused on theology, but the university grew to offer a wider range of courses including business, medicine and advertising. It is best known for its medical school and hospital, Kosin University Gospel Hospital. The university does not offer majors in humanities and natural sciences. Smoking and drinking are banned on campus. It has two campuses; Youngdo Campus in Youngdo District accommodating theology-related majors and Songdo in Seo District for medical and nursing departments.
