Established in 1946, ""Konkuk"" means “founding a nation."" The name was chosen by the university's founder Dr. Yoo Seok-chang, who hoped future Konkuk graduates would help build and serve Korea. The university is known for agricultural and life science research. The neighborhood near Konkuk University isn't only home to its students, but is also one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the capital city and a popular area for students to hang out. It is also one stop away from Ttukseom Park Station, a particularly popular spot for young picnickers. Konkuk University has two campuses, its main campus in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul, and a second campus in Chungju, North Chungcheong.
