Jeju National University was founded in 1952 and is the only four-year university on Jeju Island. The university has two campus on the island, with each campus housing classes for different majors. The Sara campus is located in the Jeju City area, in the western part of the island, and has classes for students majoring in the college of education. The Ara campus is located near the foothills of Mount Halla, in the middle of the island, and is about a 50 minute bus ride from the Sara campus. It has classes for all majors except education, and is considered the university's main campus. Because the university is based on Jeju Island, which tends to attract a lot of tourists, it is well known for its department of tourism development.
