Hanyang Women’s University was founded in 1974 as Hanyang Women’s Vocational School within the campus of the existing Hanyang University. The school's status was upgraded to a Junior College as Hanyang Women’s Junior College in 1978. The following year, it moved its campus to the current location in Seongdong District, eastern Seoul. It attained its university status in 2012 and was renamed Hanyang Women’s University.
The private school has 30 majors across four departments known as the Division of Technology, Division of Natural Sciences, Division of Humanities & Social Sciences and Division of Arts & Sports. The school also offers a course specifically for international students who want to learn Korean through the Institute of International Education.
