Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC) opened in Songdo, Incheon in September 2014 and offers three bachelor degree programs in life sciences: Environmental technology, food technology and molecular biotechnology. All courses are related to bioscience engineering as GUGC aims to educate students to find solutions to global challenges such as health, food and environment. The Korean government invited Ghent University to set up the campus, highly valuing the unviertsity's life science programs which rank within the global top 40. All three bachelor programmes in the global campus are accredited in Belgium and Korea and all classes are taught in English, and mostly taught by full-time Ghent University professors residing in Korea. The campus in Korea is an extended campus, not a branch, and students get to spend the first sememster of their senior year at the home campus in Ghent, Belgium. GUGC is a 10-minute-walk from the nearest subway station, which is adjacent to a shopping mall. Popular parts of Seoul like Hongdae and Gangnam are about 80 minutes away by bus.
