Dongguk University was founded in 1906 and has four campuses. The two bigger campuses — in Jung District, central Seoul, and Jeonju, North Gyeongsang — are liberal arts colleges. The Goyang campus in Gyeonggi focuses on medicine, pharmacy, life science and healthcare majors while a fourth campus in Los Angeles offers masters and doctorate programs on oriental medicine and acupuncture. The university is a Buddhist school. Though it welcomes students of all beliefs and philosophies, it does require everyone to take three semesters of meditation and Buddhist theory class before graduating.
