Daegu Haany University, with Haany meaning oriental medicine in Korean, was first established in 1980 with only 108 students majoring in oriental medicine. The university now offers courses across five different fields related to medicine, nursing and welfare. Though it has Daegu in its name, its main Samsung Campus is actually located in the city of Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang, just outside of Daegu and around three hours by car from Seoul. The word Samsung in the name of the campus does not come from the electronics company, but from its location in the foothills of Mount Samsung. With its main campus in the mountains, getting to and from the school is one of the more difficule elements of life at Daegu Hanny University. Public buses stop inside the campus but they don't come very often. Daegu Haany University has two other campuses in Sueseong District in Daegu and in a more central location in Gyeongsan.
