Chugye University for the Arts is an arts school located in Seodaemun District, western Seoul, founded in 1973. It is one of only two four-year arts schools in Korea, along with the Korea National University of Arts, and is known for the so-called pure arts majors, including fine art, classic music, gugak (tradtional Korean music) and Eastern Asian art. It is known as one of the most prestigious schools for an arts student, but it is not as well-known outside of the arts field. The school has been expanding its marketing strategies in recent years. It is set to go through a major reform in 2024, including changing its school of music to a school of performing arts. The Ministry of Education cut its support to the school 2011, also limiting its students from getting student loans, but that support was reinstated in 2022.
