Chosun University, founded in 1946, is situated in Gwangju, in the southwest corner of South Korea. The university is home to over 33,000 students and has 16 colleges, allowing it to offer some courses that are rare in Korea, such as Arabic. Famous alumni of Chosun University include trot singer Hong Jin-young and actress Yoon Seung-ah. Gwangju, located about 300 kilometers south of Seoul, is well-known for its pro-democracy uprising in 1980. Trips from Seoul to the university take about two hours by KTX and over three hours by express bus.
