Ajou University, founded in 1973, is located in Suwon, Gyeonggi. With the university being located in a residential area, there are many apartment complexes surrounding the school. What could be beneficial for the students here is that thanks to the large number of residents in the area, large shopping malls like the Lotte Outlet and Emart, parks and the Suwon World Cup Stadium are all located nearby. Depending on form of travel, it can take roughly an hour by subway to travel to southern Seoul, where posh areas like Gangnam, are located or an hour and a half to central Seoul. Quicker options do exist, with the rapid KTX trains making the journey in 30 minutes. As the university started as an engineering-focused university called the “Ajou Engineering College,” the school’s strength still remains in engineering studies, including mechanical engineering and software engineering. The university has 12 colleges, but only 7 are open to admissions for international students.
